Photo preview
Recognise the locker before you open it
Swipe your finger or mouse over a storage location: its name and photo appear instantly. Rest on it for a moment and the picture opens full size. You'll know exactly which hatch is meant, even on an unfamiliar boat or at a crew handover.

Everything that matters about each part
Name, type, manufacturer, part number, quantity and unit, price, purchase and inventory date, photo and notes. Plus a storage location and, if needed, a secondary location.

Safety equipment with inspection dates
Life jackets, life raft, flares, fire extinguishers, first aid and EPIRB/PLB: mark an item as a safety item with the lifebuoy button and enter the inspection interval, last inspection, expiry date and service station. The app works out the next inspection for you.

Create a level with a floor plan
Under System → Levels, create a level such as “Lower deck” and add its floor plan as a PDF, image or photo.

Mark your storage locations
Under Locations, name each locker, pick a colour, set its position on the plan and take a photo.

Add spare parts
Under Spare parts, add parts with quantity, part number and photo, and assign them to a location. Or import existing lists from CSV/Excel.

Find
Search on the Dashboard or tap the plan. The location flashes and the photo shows the locker.

FAQ
How much does BoatStorage cost?
Nothing. The app is free, with no subscription, no in-app purchases and no ads.
Which boats is BoatStorage suitable for?
Sailing and motor boats of any size. All you need is a floor plan, e.g. from the brochure or manual, as a PDF, image or photo.
How is storage organised?
There are up to five levels (e.g. lower deck, deck, engine room), each with its own floor plan. On it you place as many storage locations as you like, each with a name, colour, position and photo. Every part has a storage location and, optionally, a free-text secondary location such as “box in the tool locker”.
Can I also manage tools and consumables?
Yes. Besides spare parts you can record tools, filters, oils, cleaning products, screws, fuses and anything else, with a minimum quantity if you like.
Can I keep track of inspection dates for my safety equipment?
Yes, from version 1.5. Mark life jackets, life raft, flares, fire extinguishers, first aid or EPIRB/PLB as safety items and enter the inspection interval, last inspection and expiry date. The app shows in colour what is OK, due soon or overdue. Under System → Safety equipment you see everything at a glance and can print the list or save it as a PDF. Watch the tutorial.
Is my data stored locally or in iCloud?
Under System, “Data storage” shows whether your data is stored locally or in iCloud, and “Last sync” shows when it was last synced. You can also switch iCloud sync on and off there.
Can I manage several boats?
BoatStorage currently manages one boat.
Does the app run on iPhone, iPad and Mac?
Yes. BoatStorage is optimised for the iPad in landscape, where you get the full view of the plan. On iPhone you get every feature too, just in a more compact layout: lists instead of columns, portrait and landscape. On Macs with Apple silicon the iPad layout runs in a window; there you pick photos from files or your photo library instead of the camera. Requires iOS or iPadOS 26.2 or later.
Does the app work without internet?
Yes, completely. Changes are synced through your private iCloud as soon as you're back online.
How do I back up my data?
Under System → Backup and Restore Data you create a complete backup file, which you can save via AirDrop or in the Files app and restore later.
I already keep my parts in Excel. Can I bring them over?
Yes. Locations and spare parts can be imported from CSV or Excel files (.xlsx), e.g. from the previous Windows version. Existing parts are matched by part number.
What data does the app collect?
None. There is no tracking and no advertising or analytics tools. Your data stays on your devices and in your private iCloud.
